The Lady Bruins 2021-22 Season

Lady Bruins at New York State Championships

The girls varsity basketball team has returned to the court for the 2021 – 2022 season. Unfortunately, Covid-19 restrictions have followed them onto the court. Concerns for players and spectators safety resulted in the regulation of fans at games. As it stands, each player is allowed to invite two people to come and watch them play. This has been hard for the state champions, who have gotten used to the cheers and claps that usually fill the gym. Sophomore Renelle Grannum, says “I love playing with spectators, it makes the energy in the gym so much better.” But the players have pushed on. According to the team starters, the support and energy of bench players really helps them to persevere. Halfway through the season, the team is four and one. They plan to keep their momentum up as they enter the second half of the season.

Although spectators are not allowed in person this year, fans are encouraged to tune via the live stream links. One fan, who asked not to be named, said “I like watching the live streams, being in person is always better, but watching on screen makes them (the players) seem like professionals.” Some of the most dedicated fans can even travel to some away games, where fans are not restricted from entering. To get the word out about those games, players use word-of-mouth and often post flyers to their social media platforms. So fans are urged to keep a lookout for those. In all, our former state champs are off to a great start. The support of teammates, fans and family members will only continue to propel them forward.
