LeBron James: The Scoring Champ
He finally did it. LeBron James just did the impossible once again. As if his 2016 championship was not enough, he went out and defied the odds at a level that was even apprehendable. On February 7th, 2023 LeBron James of the Los Angeles Lakers broke the NBA all time scoring record. This record was held by Kareem Abdul Jabbar for 38 years and was said to be a record that would never get broken. Well, just like the name says, records are supposed to be broken and LeBron James did just that.
Over the years, LeBron has garnered quite the resume as a basketball player. He is now a 4 time NBA champion, 4 time Most Valuable Player (MVP), 4 time Finals MVP, a multiple time all star, and a multiple time all-NBA player. However, this feat is recognized as his greatest. Over the last couple years, many analysts have said that LeBron is reaching his end and will retire soon. Many have argued that he is getting too old and cannot produce at the same level he used to. Many have criticized LeBron throughout his entire career and have argued that he wasn’t an all time. However, this accomplishment put all of his critics to silence and has defined what greatness and longevity looks like. When the record was first beaten by Kareem Abdul Jabbar, all the NBA greats argued that it would never be beaten again and that it would be one of the records which remained stagnant. To be the owner of the most points in NBA history means that over the course of a career a player was able to not only score the ball consistently, but also score at a very high level and amount. LeBron James did just that. Even though he is not known to be a great “scorer”, he still scored at a very high level. Scoring was one of the aspects of his game that allowed him to win multiple MVPS, championships, and make numerous all NBA teams. February 7, 2023 will go down in history as the day LeBron James defied the odds once a game and showed everyone how great he really is.
