Girls Relay team went to States this year

The Bruins Varsity Winter Track team had a great season this year. The team had all types of students involved which led to the team being filled with encouragement from all of the members. The team is back in action after not having the season they wanted last year because of covid. This year, the team has athletes of all events, distance runners, sprinters, throwers, and jumpers. And not one athlete shys away from doing their best.

This season the boys team has got a new head coach Mr.Higgins who was the assistant coach last spring season. With new players and a new coach, the winter track team has been putting up great numbers at their meets. The athletes have been pushing themselves to their fullest potential and have been achieving new personal records. Athletes Tristan Brown, Steven Elcock, Tyler Means, and Andrew Jean-Charles, became finalists for the 4×200 meter relay and placed 3rd at the Hispanic games held at the Armory, with the fastest time in Nassau county.

And the girls team didn’t hold back either, with them having great performances at every meet. The girls varsity winter track team also has an eight grader on the team who has been doing well while competing against people multiple grades above her own. Their terrific efforts have been rewarded through their hard work and the support they have received from their teammates.

Senior team captain, Steven Elcock views the team as a family and believes that’s how he can continue to push himself. When asked, “What does it mean to you to be a part of the track team?¨ he answered, “It means a lot to me to be part of this team, especially being the captain. During the little time of knowing my team I already consider all of them my family.¨ No matter where each teammate is from, they are  family. That is the Baldwin spirit that Steven and the rest of the athletes represent everyday they step out on that field.

Through their hard work and dedication the boys varsity winter track team became the Conference 2 winter track runner-ups. And the girls varsity winter track team placed 3rd overall in the conference. Athletes Camdresa Davis took 1st in the 600, Saraih Doresca placed 1st in the 55 , and Breanne Barnett placed 3rd in the 55. In addition, Kris Chambers placed 1st place in the conference 2 winter track weight throw competition, and Jalen George placed 2nd in the same event. The boys team was led by triple gold winner Andrew Jean-Charles who took first in long jump, triple jump, and in the 4×4 relay. Both teams’ efforts have been reflected through the victorious plaques each team took home. And they will not stop striving for greatness until state championships are in sight.
